Atypical Tours began in the most atypical of times - the Global Pandemic.

Originally from Minneapolis-area, I (Kyle) have loved traveling my entire life. In my twenties, I spent most of my time finding the next place to go - and I quickly visited almost 40 countries across five continents, as well as all 50 states. I’ve loved other cultures and meeting people from all over the world.

Despite that, I never considered being a tour guide and worked in office jobs for most of my life. After rethinking my priorities in my late-20s, I made an abrupt move to New Orleans, fell in love with the city, and decided to give tours there. With my passion for storytelling, I found a perfect fit in the job and pursued the career full-time. I’ve loved using history as a template to tell people stories - and learning as much as I could in the process. Though after several years in the South, I again felt the need for a change. So, I moved to New York a few years ago to take on a new challenge.

In my non-tour guide life, I’ve worked in film/tv production on the side and I have built and acted in haunted houses. Though most of my work was shuttered during the lockdown, I’ve been eager to get back to giving tours during these atypical times. Sitting around at home looking for a new project, I thought I’d try my hand at creating my own company. And so, Atypical Tours was born!
